"For many, Candysound is the real deal, so it doesn’t matter what I say. For those who haven’t discovered Candysound, however, I can only confirm that they are indeed the “real deal”. This is a band that can play the small club setting or the gravel parking lot, and they will still blow you away.
In today’s musical climate of the artificial, the overly commercialized, and the overtly commoditized with the “American Idols” of the world, it is fun to find the pendulum swinging back on occasion towards the direction of substance, meaning, and intelligence. For those of us in Bellingham who feel the cultural atrophy, Candysound can be seen as a band that delivers on that promise to return to quality and smart pop-artistry.
These Days is Candysound’s latest effort, a conscious song-by-song progression of skillful mediation, and splashy cymbal work. All songs are catchy though far from simple, and would be welcomed at a proper Brit-Pop dinner party. These Days blurs the lines between shoe-gazer and pop by being both progressive and rooted in indie-pop sensibilities. Teo Crider provides a constant swirl of hooky guitar and vocals while anchored by Jesse Cohen’s addictive and instantly appreciated melodic bass lines and Tom Fitzgibbon’s hyper and splashy drumming.
It is interesting how all of Candysound’s present and past songs fit like a puzzle, leaving one with a complete picture of things to come from this promising band." –Johnny Quimond, What's Up! Magazine (Bellingham)
